The Audience is your JUDGE

The Audience is most important of all. They are the final judge of what your playing out there, there is no party without people ( simple fact ). People can be at a party for a number of reasons, some might be there coz their friends are with them, or they are there to just have some fun or maybe to just get drunk, some people could be there just to showoff or they could be there to socialise onli! Some would just run arnd taking pictures and some of them could even be the organizers. So how does all this concern a DJ?? Its real simple, in every party there are people with a different taste in music. Everybody cannot like the same type of music which is why a DJ should never despise any another DJ or another class of music.. In a party, people eventually get drunk or tipsy.. So its very important to keep the tempo booming up in the begining. Later during the long hours when people start getting tired, u could reduce it or else they would just get tired and leave the floor..

Now depending on the crowd and occasion of the party your playlist must vary.. I have noticed tht every party has a different sensation and some people might even ask you to play some rock music, but that does not mean heavy metal rock cause the crowd would just start hating you, at the same time it does not have to be really slow also.. The average BPM ( Beats per Minute) must be maintained to keep the audience moving..

Dont expect anything from the crowd except for the reaction of dancing, you will not find people who 'woo' every time you play a new track.. It might just happen occasionally and its a positive sign from them.. A 'woo' could either mean that the song you just played is awesome, or it could mean 'good job keeping up the tempo' which actually means "Dont change the BPM!!!" At the initial stages you must be able to cater to all types of people ( house, trance, hip-hop, electro, rave, techno, hindi or punjabi, etc.)

So a party is not that difficult.. Nevertheless some DJ's have quite a strange idea of what's goin on at a party...

Getting Started....

As for getting yourself into the business, it may not be easy for many... First of all you will require some basic knowledge and some good equipment... For me it is more of a hobby than a profession... Its what you must want to do, not what you need to do or do by force... Its not about the money, its about the audience... You should be able to make your crowd like you... There are a lot of things to being a DJ, but if you play music by your specific choice, you wont get too far... you must be able to play what the people at the party want to listen.... It would be weird if you played band music at a dance party, or rock music when people need some hip-hop.... In my case i like to listen to some punjabi once in a while, and some slow songs for the right mood, but it should not be the same scene at an event or a party... Only if the crowd likes hindi music or punjabi, ill put in those numbers for them.... Most DJ's are distinguished, but at the initiation phase you need to be able to play all sorts of music ( including House, Club, Base, Hindi, Hip-Hop, Techno, Rave, Remixes, etc.) so that people recognize you more faster and as for the organizers, with you being a rookie, they get all types and sets of music  at a cheaper rate. Trust me that makes you popular really fast...

A DJ must always show the right attitude and the right mindset when he/she is playing... You must be able to promote yourself very quickly before some one else takes away your scene... If you look around you, every tom dick & harry i know just tires to be a DJ... Playing music from a laptop only does not make you a DJ... Now that 'Virtual DJ' has made it so easy for people to mix and record tracks.... Noobies want to take advantage of it... Trust me, unless you have the skill within you, you wont last too long because playing at small time parties is just the start, only playing tracks one after the other using the 'Fader' is not everything i mean people are going to wanna know weather you have the skill or not....I will be giving out a few mixing techniques in some of my later posts and lots of other useful stuff that can help some new comers because one thing that i hate is "some noob trying to do something with his laptop and some software while the whole party is ruined and people just wanna throw stuff at him" trust me you dont wanna be there coz i've seen many people in that situation... So make sure you practice enough before you play at an event/party, I'ts what i did before playing at my first party....

I know this was a long post but hey, im just "Getting started" ;) I have so much to share.... Hope there are a lot of viewers who find my post's useful.....
